My Experience Learning English at the University

My experience learning English at the university was a very good. At the beginning I thought that it would be like any other course of English. Then, I was afraid of not being on the same level of all, and finally, I though that it would help me in my curriculum and also to maintain the practice with the language. I had never received any class of English at the university, because I exonerate from all the levels that corresponded. I choose English as an elective course, because I thought that it is very important to keep in practice with it.

First, I thought that it would be like every course of English as I already mention before, or like any other class of the university. But the first day I realize that it would be very entertainment, interesting and a good distraction from the other stressful classes that we have.

I wasn’t familiarized with the method of this course at the university, but I have to say, that the level that we are in this moment, is very helpful and relax at the same time. The important of this course, I think that was that we could learn how to establish a conversation with anyone and at the same time feel comfortable with the language.

Like I said before, I was a little nervous on the first class, because I was not sure what to expect. But he first day of class, we have a very good time with all my classmates, also I was a little insecure with my English level, but when I started step by step I felt more familiarized and comfortable. I realized that the most difficult issue in the course is to learn how to feel comfortable with the language and not to worry if you make mistakes.

The main reason that I choose the course of English was because I had to take an elective course, and also because I had been told that at the end of this course we will receive, if we pass the exam, a certificate from the university. I think that the certificate is going to be very useful, most of all, if one of us has the opportunity to apply in an Exchange program with another university. Also it can give us a lot of opportunities in a specific job.

In conclusion, in my personal point of view, is very important to speak or learn another language for the future. I would love to be in practice with the language, because like this we can learn new things and familiarized every day with it.

Thanks to this course I learn to be more comfortable with the things that I already know, and to express myself with this language.

New Challenges in Our Career

Medicine Veterinary is facing important challenges in technology, social matters and education. These areas represent an important roll for the career and their professionals. These problems should change to give more respect for the career itself and the veterinarian professional.

Technology in veterinary should said, that every day is growing more and more, but this use of the technology depends mostly on the resources of each veterinary clinic and of course the proprietary of it.

To my mind, the technology in North America and some countries in Europe, have very developed clinics with the use of the ultimate medical equipment and technology, compare with most of Latin America countries. I think that this difference of technology between countries is because of social matters. (economical issues, culture, political issues etc)

The social matters, I think is the most challenge that the career is facing. The Veterinary Medicine is not social recognize as much as should be, most of the people does not recognize or understand the important of the discipline, the MVZ helps and contribute a lot, to a development of a countries, helping to a different animal industries.

This area is very controversial point, because it is not social recognize in most countries of Latin America but is very recognize in other countries. I think that this should change, because people doesn’t valorize and respect the career, as it should be in every part of the world. This area also depends on the education of every country and also the professional colleges and Universities needs to focus their efforts to promote and explain the benefits and the importance of the MVZ career.

Education is another of the important areas, which is facing with different challenges in our career; education of course to my mind is the most important area. Some countries like Canada and United States take a student approximately eight years to graduate, and in most parts of Latin America it takes five to six years. That show us, one of the important reasons why the career is recognize and respect more in some countries than others.

In conclusion, I think that these three areas are connected between them; one area depends on the other one. The most important one is education, because people associated the time that it takes to graduate to the respect of a career, but what they really don’t know, is that veterinary should be respected as what it is “medicine”.

People should respect our career here in Latin America, so like this we can developed more every day in the areas connected with technology.

Summary from Article "Snakes Declining at Alarming Rate, Say Scientists"

This article talks about the widespread disappearance of snakes, the scientists suspects that one of the important factors can be the “climate” and their decline will have wider ecological consequence.

The papers reports eleven of the population groups “decline sharply”, while five remained stable, and one showed a very weak sign of increase. These researches were made in UK, France, Italy, Nigeria and Australia. The authors write that all the declines occurred during the same relatively period of time and climate. Scientists said that it could be a common cause and could indicate a widespread phenomenon. The paper reflect, that there is not proof of the cause of the losses, but they suspect the loss or deterioration of habitats and the declining of food (prey), but all is surrounded about the change of climate.

This article, also mention that IUCN (International Union of the Conservation of Nature) said it had not done an analysis of snakes, but based on assessments of nearly one in five reptile species it estimates 28% are threatened.

This article show us, how the animals day to day are becoming extinct around the world, mainly because the climate. These decreases of population of animals around the world not just affect the equilibrium of the ecology but the ecosystems as well, and in a long period of time will affect us as well.

Improving Our Faculty

The current situation of our faculty is not bad, but it I think it could have more improvements. The faculty has a cafeteria, bathrooms, library, hospital and the farm. Regarding all these places, in my personal point of view, exist a lack of one or two important issues.

One of the most important issue, it should be the construction of more classes and a special study rooms. In my opinion, it’s very important, because sometimes in the library there’s no place to study. Also, I think that this situation of high demand of the library is because the winter.

Another important issue, is the cafeteria. The cafeteria in our faculty is not bad, but it could be better. This is very important to all the students and teachers, because the faculty is very far from another options, so, much of the people depend on the lunch of the cafeteria; I believe that most of the students take their own lunch on a daily basis, to the faculty, due to three important reasons: the high prices, the quality of the food and the poor variation of the menu.

To deal with the lack of places to study, most of the students decide go home to do it, or if we have a window between classes, we uses the garden.

The situation to deal with the cafeteria, as I mention before, is bringing my own food from home or going to the faculty of agronomy.

The benefits of improving these environments will reflect a better performance in the students, and also striving in their classes. It’s necessary, have a comfortable place to study and also have a good meal and resting place. Also it comes to help a lot, because some students are from other regions or countries, and we are lack of the time, so if the faculty invests in these two projects can help a lot.

I think that these two situations could be resolved; in my opinion the students should talk and make recommendations to the faculty headquarters, and have an internal consensus, on what issues the faculty should improve; like this two ideas, also can be more good ideas and needs, depends on the different areas or year attended. After presented these ideas or suggestions, the people in charge, could find a way to improve step by step the issues, and give more facilities to all.

Regards of this two situation that I mention, I think that the faculty in general is a very good one, especially for our career. We have a lot of beautiful places to be outsider, like the farm and the grass all around us. I think that students should involve more, and help the authorities to view the needs, so, with the participation of all of us and the authorities, we could improve together our faculty and make it every day a better place, for sure, every one will be proud, to be part of the faculty.

My Favorite Animal

The killer whale, commonly named as the orca is tha largest specie of the oceanic dolphin family. They are found in all the ocean´s world, from the Artic to the Antartic and the tropical seas. There are different species depending on where they live. The size of the orca is range from 6 to 8 meters. The killer whales are distinctively marked, because of their black back and white chest and sides colours. Its one of the world´s most powerful predators. They feast on marine mammals, like seals, sea lions, an even other whales.

The fist time that I founded an incredible animal and my favorite one, is when I was seven years old. The first time I saw it, was in Sea World, Miami. My family and I went to the show of the orch. I was impressed by its size and the social behavior with their trainers.

The orca is my favorite animal, because of its one very interesting characteristic of the social behavior. Killer whales are frecuently active at the surface , with acrobatic behaviors such as breaching, spyhopping and tal slapping. These activities have different purposes, such as play, communications or courtship. The orch have the second largest brain of all marine mammals. The orca can be trained and they are described as intelligent animals. The intelligence of animals is very difficult to explain, because you cannot measure or define it. This is the main characteristics of the killer whale that makes it my favourite animal.

In 2008, The International Union for Conservation of Nature changed the killer whale´s conservation status from conservation dependent to fata deficient, recognizing that killer whales tipes may actually be separate endangered species. The main reasons that the killer whale is endangered are because of the large scale of oil spills and the pollution of noise created by boats.

I would like to help this animal by creating campaigns againts the oil spills of boats and less conflict created by boats. I think that is very difficult to help them, because is very necesary for the economy of the countries the transportation in boats for the trade from country to country.

Finally, I can say that the orch is my favorite animal because of the social behavior and the size. Perhaps all the drama about the accident of trainers with orca, I founded one of the most intelligent animals, that cannot be judge by theit actions because they will be always wild animals.

WHERE TO GO IN SANTIAGO

I think, that a foreigner tourist should visit some of the places that I had visited when I made my first trip to Santiago. During these time, I had a very huge impression during my first visit to Santiago, because I founded a very interesting and modern city, compare with my country and some other of Central America. Its notorious the difference in the economic development between Chile and other countries in Latin America, and you can easily notice, viewing their public services.

The first time I came to Santiago was in December of 2008 with my older brother. We just came for two weeks, only with the purpose to make my admission tests to the University of Chile, so we didn’t have much time to visit much of Santiago.

During my first trip, we just stayed at the city, and tried to visit some nice and important places, one of them was the “Cerro San Cristobal”, it is the highest hill of Santiago and is part of the Metropolitan Park. From the top part of the hill, you can see the complete city, and it is so beautiful. The most important and also very interesting of these places were, the Sanctuary of the Immaculate Concepción and also the cableway.

The second place that we went was to “La Moneda” palace, built during the colonial time and was designed by an Italian architect. The original reason to build the palace was to make the money of Chile. Then, during around 80 years were the official presidents home. Actually is used for the headquarters of the congress of the Chilean republic, it’s a wonderful palace and the interior is decorated with a lot of European and Chilean arts. It is a very important and beautiful place to visit, due to the history and unique construction.

The third place that we went was to the “Museum of Bellas Artes”, founded in 1880. In 1887 the museum was transferred to the Parthenon of la Quinta Normal, and gave it the name. The construction of the new museum and the academy of Bellas Artes, was named as part of the plans for the celebration of “Centenario de la Independencia de Chile” converting the institution to a symbol that summoned the arts. The palace of Bellas Artes was open the 21 of September on 1910. I think that this place is one of the most important ones, because it shows the art and history of the Chilean people.

The fourth place that a tourist should visit in Santiago is the ski center “El Colorado”. This is only 39 km from the city; it’s the most popular winter center for the Chilean people and also the most antique that was created in the 30´s. I think that this would be a very interesting outdoor activity that a tourist should do, regards the activity you can see the beautiful landscape.

The fifth place that a tourist should visit here in Santiago is El Barrio Histórico la Lastarria or Bellas Artes. This place begins in the middle of the century XIX, with the construction of the parish de la Vera Cruz and families establishing around it. It is compose with a lot of interesting places, shops, restaurants, etc. I think this is a place were the tourist can do outdoor activities and to relax with the Chilean culture.

This are the five places that I think a tourist should go or do here in Santiago. Santiago is big city and I suppose there are a lot of other interesting, historical, and beautiful that the people could go.

Death Penalty

The death penalty or capital punishment is the killing of a person by the judicial process as a punishment for an offense. The crimes that can result in a death penalty are known as crimes or capital offenses. The first established death penalty laws date on the XVIII Century B.C , in the Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon.

Actually the use of the death penalty has become restrained for most of the countries. In the past, death penalty has been practiced in every nation, but now just 58 countries actively practice it, and 95 had abolished. This theme is very controversy to countries and states, because it has different political and religious views. Singapore, Japan and the U.S. are the only fully developed countries that have retained the death penalty.

In the past, there were different methods used for the capital punishment, like electrocution, gas chamber, firing squad, hanging and lethal injection. Actually the most used method is the lethal injection, but in the state of Utah the firing squad still remains as an execution.

In my opinion, the death penalty should not exist. I’m a Catholic person, my actions and ideas are always based on my religion. So for me, no one has the choice or right for a person’s life. Regards my religion and ethics, I think that death penalty is an easy method for the governments and the criminals. To be honest I think that prison is the best punishment for any person, most if you are sentenced for 50 years or for life. I think that criminals that are sentenced for life, suffer and regret their actions more, by being all their life in a total isolation in prison.

As far as I’m concerned, governments spent a lot of money on prison and criminals, because they have to sustain them. Every day violence and crimes increase, most of the prisons are filled, so is very difficult to sustain them. If you ask me I think that the best choice for governments or states should be to make criminals work for them. For me, it is the best choice for both, because criminals would be doing something productive for the society, and governments can benefit from this.

From my point of view, sometimes criminals are not sentenced as they should, because they have money to spend on good lawyers that could reduced their sentence, so like this, you look so many cases of criminals spending just 10 or 15 years on prison and being liberated by the government after they had killed and raped.

For me, this is a very difficult theme, because there are political, religious and ethics views, but to be honest I’m not in favor of death penalty.
