WHERE TO GO IN SANTIAGO

I think, that a foreigner tourist should visit some of the places that I had visited when I made my first trip to Santiago. During these time, I had a very huge impression during my first visit to Santiago, because I founded a very interesting and modern city, compare with my country and some other of Central America. Its notorious the difference in the economic development between Chile and other countries in Latin America, and you can easily notice, viewing their public services.

The first time I came to Santiago was in December of 2008 with my older brother. We just came for two weeks, only with the purpose to make my admission tests to the University of Chile, so we didn’t have much time to visit much of Santiago.

During my first trip, we just stayed at the city, and tried to visit some nice and important places, one of them was the “Cerro San Cristobal”, it is the highest hill of Santiago and is part of the Metropolitan Park. From the top part of the hill, you can see the complete city, and it is so beautiful. The most important and also very interesting of these places were, the Sanctuary of the Immaculate Concepción and also the cableway.

The second place that we went was to “La Moneda” palace, built during the colonial time and was designed by an Italian architect. The original reason to build the palace was to make the money of Chile. Then, during around 80 years were the official presidents home. Actually is used for the headquarters of the congress of the Chilean republic, it’s a wonderful palace and the interior is decorated with a lot of European and Chilean arts. It is a very important and beautiful place to visit, due to the history and unique construction.

The third place that we went was to the “Museum of Bellas Artes”, founded in 1880. In 1887 the museum was transferred to the Parthenon of la Quinta Normal, and gave it the name. The construction of the new museum and the academy of Bellas Artes, was named as part of the plans for the celebration of “Centenario de la Independencia de Chile” converting the institution to a symbol that summoned the arts. The palace of Bellas Artes was open the 21 of September on 1910. I think that this place is one of the most important ones, because it shows the art and history of the Chilean people.

The fourth place that a tourist should visit in Santiago is the ski center “El Colorado”. This is only 39 km from the city; it’s the most popular winter center for the Chilean people and also the most antique that was created in the 30´s. I think that this would be a very interesting outdoor activity that a tourist should do, regards the activity you can see the beautiful landscape.

The fifth place that a tourist should visit here in Santiago is El Barrio Histórico la Lastarria or Bellas Artes. This place begins in the middle of the century XIX, with the construction of the parish de la Vera Cruz and families establishing around it. It is compose with a lot of interesting places, shops, restaurants, etc. I think this is a place were the tourist can do outdoor activities and to relax with the Chilean culture.

This are the five places that I think a tourist should go or do here in Santiago. Santiago is big city and I suppose there are a lot of other interesting, historical, and beautiful that the people could go.
