My Favorite Animal

The killer whale, commonly named as the orca is tha largest specie of the oceanic dolphin family. They are found in all the ocean´s world, from the Artic to the Antartic and the tropical seas. There are different species depending on where they live. The size of the orca is range from 6 to 8 meters. The killer whales are distinctively marked, because of their black back and white chest and sides colours. Its one of the world´s most powerful predators. They feast on marine mammals, like seals, sea lions, an even other whales.

The fist time that I founded an incredible animal and my favorite one, is when I was seven years old. The first time I saw it, was in Sea World, Miami. My family and I went to the show of the orch. I was impressed by its size and the social behavior with their trainers.

The orca is my favorite animal, because of its one very interesting characteristic of the social behavior. Killer whales are frecuently active at the surface , with acrobatic behaviors such as breaching, spyhopping and tal slapping. These activities have different purposes, such as play, communications or courtship. The orch have the second largest brain of all marine mammals. The orca can be trained and they are described as intelligent animals. The intelligence of animals is very difficult to explain, because you cannot measure or define it. This is the main characteristics of the killer whale that makes it my favourite animal.

In 2008, The International Union for Conservation of Nature changed the killer whale´s conservation status from conservation dependent to fata deficient, recognizing that killer whales tipes may actually be separate endangered species. The main reasons that the killer whale is endangered are because of the large scale of oil spills and the pollution of noise created by boats.

I would like to help this animal by creating campaigns againts the oil spills of boats and less conflict created by boats. I think that is very difficult to help them, because is very necesary for the economy of the countries the transportation in boats for the trade from country to country.

Finally, I can say that the orch is my favorite animal because of the social behavior and the size. Perhaps all the drama about the accident of trainers with orca, I founded one of the most intelligent animals, that cannot be judge by theit actions because they will be always wild animals.

WHERE TO GO IN SANTIAGO

I think, that a foreigner tourist should visit some of the places that I had visited when I made my first trip to Santiago. During these time, I had a very huge impression during my first visit to Santiago, because I founded a very interesting and modern city, compare with my country and some other of Central America. Its notorious the difference in the economic development between Chile and other countries in Latin America, and you can easily notice, viewing their public services.

The first time I came to Santiago was in December of 2008 with my older brother. We just came for two weeks, only with the purpose to make my admission tests to the University of Chile, so we didn’t have much time to visit much of Santiago.

During my first trip, we just stayed at the city, and tried to visit some nice and important places, one of them was the “Cerro San Cristobal”, it is the highest hill of Santiago and is part of the Metropolitan Park. From the top part of the hill, you can see the complete city, and it is so beautiful. The most important and also very interesting of these places were, the Sanctuary of the Immaculate Concepción and also the cableway.

The second place that we went was to “La Moneda” palace, built during the colonial time and was designed by an Italian architect. The original reason to build the palace was to make the money of Chile. Then, during around 80 years were the official presidents home. Actually is used for the headquarters of the congress of the Chilean republic, it’s a wonderful palace and the interior is decorated with a lot of European and Chilean arts. It is a very important and beautiful place to visit, due to the history and unique construction.

The third place that we went was to the “Museum of Bellas Artes”, founded in 1880. In 1887 the museum was transferred to the Parthenon of la Quinta Normal, and gave it the name. The construction of the new museum and the academy of Bellas Artes, was named as part of the plans for the celebration of “Centenario de la Independencia de Chile” converting the institution to a symbol that summoned the arts. The palace of Bellas Artes was open the 21 of September on 1910. I think that this place is one of the most important ones, because it shows the art and history of the Chilean people.

The fourth place that a tourist should visit in Santiago is the ski center “El Colorado”. This is only 39 km from the city; it’s the most popular winter center for the Chilean people and also the most antique that was created in the 30´s. I think that this would be a very interesting outdoor activity that a tourist should do, regards the activity you can see the beautiful landscape.

The fifth place that a tourist should visit here in Santiago is El Barrio Histórico la Lastarria or Bellas Artes. This place begins in the middle of the century XIX, with the construction of the parish de la Vera Cruz and families establishing around it. It is compose with a lot of interesting places, shops, restaurants, etc. I think this is a place were the tourist can do outdoor activities and to relax with the Chilean culture.

This are the five places that I think a tourist should go or do here in Santiago. Santiago is big city and I suppose there are a lot of other interesting, historical, and beautiful that the people could go.

Death Penalty

The death penalty or capital punishment is the killing of a person by the judicial process as a punishment for an offense. The crimes that can result in a death penalty are known as crimes or capital offenses. The first established death penalty laws date on the XVIII Century B.C , in the Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon.

Actually the use of the death penalty has become restrained for most of the countries. In the past, death penalty has been practiced in every nation, but now just 58 countries actively practice it, and 95 had abolished. This theme is very controversy to countries and states, because it has different political and religious views. Singapore, Japan and the U.S. are the only fully developed countries that have retained the death penalty.

In the past, there were different methods used for the capital punishment, like electrocution, gas chamber, firing squad, hanging and lethal injection. Actually the most used method is the lethal injection, but in the state of Utah the firing squad still remains as an execution.

In my opinion, the death penalty should not exist. I’m a Catholic person, my actions and ideas are always based on my religion. So for me, no one has the choice or right for a person’s life. Regards my religion and ethics, I think that death penalty is an easy method for the governments and the criminals. To be honest I think that prison is the best punishment for any person, most if you are sentenced for 50 years or for life. I think that criminals that are sentenced for life, suffer and regret their actions more, by being all their life in a total isolation in prison.

As far as I’m concerned, governments spent a lot of money on prison and criminals, because they have to sustain them. Every day violence and crimes increase, most of the prisons are filled, so is very difficult to sustain them. If you ask me I think that the best choice for governments or states should be to make criminals work for them. For me, it is the best choice for both, because criminals would be doing something productive for the society, and governments can benefit from this.

From my point of view, sometimes criminals are not sentenced as they should, because they have money to spend on good lawyers that could reduced their sentence, so like this, you look so many cases of criminals spending just 10 or 15 years on prison and being liberated by the government after they had killed and raped.

For me, this is a very difficult theme, because there are political, religious and ethics views, but to be honest I’m not in favor of death penalty.

The Country That I Would Like To Visit

The country that I would like to visit some day is Ukraine. My interest of visiting this country is because has a totally different culture and my two little sister are from there. I would like to go with my family to know more about the culture and of the country, like a family trip.

Ukraine is one of the two largest countries on Eastern Europe. Ukraine became independent in 1991 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It is a unitary state composed of 24 provinces and its capital is Kiev. The dominant religion is Eastern Orthodox Christianity, that is and was very influenced in the architecture, literature, music and culture.

My father, decides to adopt to children from there, and he went to Ukraine to bring them, and he mention me how different are the customs and culture. They used the Cyrillic alphabet, the same use in Russia and other Eastern Europe country.

After the communist regimen, the country pass through many different stages trying to be a democratic country, and that’s generate a lot of corruption and also a lot of libertinism. When Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union, everything was own by the state, doesn’t exist the private industry, and after the dissolution the new governments distribute many of their owns and lands between their people, many corruption.

During the communism (67 years) the religions were prohibited and for many years predominate the atheism. Because that, many people loses principles and when the dissolutions occurs, the youngest fall in liberalism, carrying a lot of problems for them and the country. Many people were without jobs, because no private industries invest in a new “democratic country”; the country falls in a extreme poverty and the drugs invaded the country, and one of the big problems were the increase in quantity of non planned pregnancy in very young single girls. Due to that, they developed a good adoptions law that gave a good support to all involved parts, the biological parents, the new legal parents and the kids. Giving a fallow up until they reach the age majority.

They arrive to Guatemala when they were three and four years old, actually they have eight and seven, and they are very happy. Hopefully in a future, all of us will travel to Ukraine to show their origins and the great culture of the Eastern Europe.
